7 Reflection Time

As we come to the end of the school year I must do a reflection for the English class that made this all happen. Here are the questions I answered.

  • What did you intend to accomplish with your 20time project? What did you actually accomplish with your 20time project? I wanted to explore painting things that you can't really see/ feel.
  • Describe the impact of your project on yourself and others. How could you use what you learned to create a positive change in someone else or the community? My project hopefully impacts others by inspiring them to explore the world around them (or not around them).
  • What roadblocks did you run into? What were the areas of the project that were more difficult than you expected them to be? I could not get the blending effect right. There is too much black in one place and not enough black in another place etc.… The white specs are some times to big and I was looking for some consistency
  • What new learning, if any, did you gain because of the roadblock? Did the roadblock give you new insight, change the course of the project, etc.? How? I think it would benefit me to get a smaller paint brush. And I should do this project exclusively with oil paint. Because the nature of oil paint is a blending medium.
  • Finish this sentence: The thing about this kind of learning that works best for me is….It’s something I do alone, and I can have a quiet environment all by myself with no one watching.
  • Finish this sentence: The thing about this kind of learning that is a challenge for me is... It’s hard to come back to painting. It’s hard to stay motivated when things just aren't looking right.
  • Would you consider your project a success? A failure? Somewhere in between? Explain your answer. Somewhere in between, I was successful in ways of investigation. But one painting I had very high hopes for and when I couldn't do it, I got discouraged
  • Estimate how much time you spent on your 20-Time project per week: five hours about per painting. Sometimes I would spend the full 5 hours on it in one night and sometimes I would do it hour by hour. But I’m very lazy so I rather do it all at once because I hate cleaning my brushes.
  • How does what you did in 20-Time connect with the IB Learner Profile (see Moodle or Intro Packet for the IB Learner Profile qualities)? Discuss any and all qualities that apply. Inquirers, I have the skills to paint and I researched by experiment with the paintings. I enjoyed painting and I’m going to give them away as gifts.
  • How does what you did in 20-Time show relevant learning in your English class? Things that may apply: written communication, oral communication, collaboration, research skills, technology/digital media skills, reading skills, etc. By blogging with words and pictures I used multimedia to communicate my idea and voice to the world.(or whoever reads my posts)
  • What advice would you have for teachers who are doing 20-time projects in the future? What would you tell them that would make the project go more smoothly or more successfully? Do the blog at home and the actual project in class because I had to do most of mine at home which restricted my access to materials. And the blog is just a way to document so maybe a really small word count.
  • What advice would you have for students who are doing a 20-time project in the future? What would you tell them that would make the project go more smoothly or more successfully? Pick something that you think is cool even if it’s lame or stupid to others. Because when you’re rich and famous for this they will see how much it means to you and them they will think it’s cool to.
  • Will you continue with your independent learning/creating beyond this class? Why or why not? If I do I will have to buy my own materials.
